Harvest Host in Belen, New Mexico

Harvest Host in Belen, New Mexico
We stayed under Jeff's hay barn for the night. So dark and quiet - we loved it!

On April 11th, we used our Harvest Host membership to stay at an organic farm in Belen, New Mexico. Harvest Host is a membership (minimal cost annually) that provides for an overnight stay for travelers who just need to get off the road for 1 night and are tired of parking in a Walmart parking lot - lol. Our host was a man named Jeff Gobel and his wife (we did not get to meet her). Jeff is a retired professor in land conservation and has worked all over the world. He is trying new methods of conservation and ground cover on his small farm in Belen - he buys some grass seeds from a Nebraska place; small world! He told us of some of his success stories from places like the Koch brother's ranch in Maui, Hawaii and others in Africa. Super interesting. We also discovered a local brewery that had amazing green chili cheeseburgers! The town of Belen is a railroad town and has been featured in a number of movies from the past - we heard about this on a train trip to Belen but more about that later. Any hoo, 1 night in Belen and then on to Taos!
