A stone's throw from Mesilla, New Mexico
Greetings! This week we spent some time exploring the small town of Mesilla. Mesilla is less than a mile from where we are staying. Mike road his bike over one afternoon - that's how close we are! Any hoo, the town is a bedroom community of Las Cruces that is very old and historic and it's people are a combination of hispanic locals, artists, and the wealthy who are slowly gentrifying the area. Lot's of original (crumbling) adobe dwellings that cannot just be demolished because of their historic nature. There is livestock in town like horses, goats, and chickens. You will see a million dollar new dwelling next to something that resembles a shambles of a farm. It's quaint and delghtful with a beautiful little town square.
Fun Fact: Billy the Kid was tried and hanged in Mesilla. The old courthouse where the debated trial was held is now a gift shop. The shop has been in the owner's family for more than 50 years and he vows to keep the history of Billy the Kid alive through his business.
